Welcome to the third edition of FOI Clinical. Each week, I'll send you a briefing on outbreak news. When something urgent breaks, you'll get an alert the same day. The first alert, on extensively drug-resistant salmonella, is now free to read.

Measles
Latest epidemiology
- As of February 19, 2026, there have been 982 confirmed cases, and 26 jurisdictions have reported cases so far this year.
- Most cases (59%) have been reported in children aged 5-19, followed by children under the age of 5, which accounted for 25% of cases.
- The vast majority of cases, 94%, have been in individuals who were unvaccinated or with unknown vaccination status.
Hospitalizations are likely being undercounted. Last year, 246 hospitalizations were reported, amounting to 11% of confirmed cases. So far this year, 38 hospitalizations have been reported, just 4% of confirmed cases. This figure is significantly lower than what is typically seen in measles outbreaks in the US, which CDC says has historically been closer to 1 in 5 unvaccinated cases requiring hospitalization.
